What are we doing and why?

We are often blinded by the temptation to jump into a project without doing our "homework" first. As a woodworker, I can't wait to get into the shop and begin sawing and planing. Over the years, I quickly discovered that time spent planning a project before ever entering the shop would payoff in kind. With direction, decisions are easier to make and costly mistakes are kept to a minimum.

Postcards from the Projects

It is summer and while on vacation it is nice to send postcards back to those unfortunate to be stuck at home. The great thing about a postcard is that the space for your message is limited. Those not too interested in communicating great thought are satisfied with a message like "Hello from Hawaii... We are having a great time... Wish you were here!". However, if you are truly interested in telling everything there is about your vacation, a postcard is great in forcing you to be concise and only including the most essential thoughts so that the reader gets a clear understanding of the wonderful time you are having.

Developing an Elevator Story

One way of telling an elevator story that's easy to remember and simple to perform is the "Screenplay Method." Its unique name derives from the fact that any good story — a movie, play or book – generally has four key elements:
