We are often blinded by the temptation to jump into a project without doing our "homework" first. As a woodworker, I can't wait to get into the shop and begin sawing and planing. Over the years, I quickly discovered that time spent planning a project before ever entering the shop would payoff in kind. With direction, decisions are easier to make and costly mistakes are kept to a minimum.
Similarly, before embarking on any technology project, it is important to do your homework. By this, I mean spend time reflecting on "What are we doing and why?" For a website, I use the general idea of Identity to represent this concept of discovering the mission, values, and core values associated with the project.
